WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– ‘Tis the season for giving, but according to the Salvation Army, people may not be feeling as generous this holiday season.
The Salvation Army fundraises by mail, its “Angel Tree Program”, and by the red kettles.
Typically, the organization raises around 400 thousand by mail.
So far they have only received about 185-thousand dollars, though they believe they can still meet their goal by Christmas.
Lots of angels have been picked up, which the salvation army is pleased with, but Major Ken Morris is concerned with the third leg of the tripod.
“As far as the kettles, it’s a little behind. We’ve checked with other Salvation Army command posts, and they seem to be behind as well. We’ve raised 80 thousand dollars so far. Typically, we try to aim for 200 thousand, and we’re not quite sure we’re going to make that,” said Ken Morris, Commanding Officer of the Salvation Army Cape Fear.
Morris says that no matter if their fundraising goals are met or not, all families that applied for their program will be provided with the food and toys they need for the holidays.
